Five Ways With Skin Loving Oils

I never thought I’d do it, yet here we are.

By that I mean I never, ever thought I’d actually get on with body or face oils, let alone include them as part of my regular beauty routine.

Up until very recently, I justified my reasons to steer clear of all those really lovely, luxurious body oils by staying firm with the idea that they’ll only escalate my already very oily skin situation.

I was adamant that no good could possibly come from lathering myself up with something that’s guaranteed to make me feel slimy or icky and avoided them completely - and I know I’m not the only one who thinks of oils this way.

Yet, here I am writing a blog post dedicated to my love for oils because, despite all my initial hesitations about these golden wonders, it turns out I completely misjudged them.

The products featured in this blog, of course!

Over the past couple of years I’ve steadily become more aware of what’s inside the products I’m using on my skin and as a result, turning toward cleaner, natural products; oils fall right into that category.

They tend to include well-known ingredients and essential oils like rose, grape seed, coconut oil etc which work with my sensitive skin - and I can actually recognise these and understand what’s in them when I look on the packaging.

I believe oils are already self-sufficient in their ability to deliver gentle and effective skincare results without the need for harsh and unnecessary additives which I’ll blame for past my skin reactions.

For me, oils are like an all in one boost of everything my particular skin type needs; moisture, hydration, nourishment and you only really need a few drops and a little goes a long way - yay!

So, how can you use oils?

Well, don’t be scared like I was because you could be missing out (well, your skin could be).

So, if you’re like me and are hesitant to start using them then here are five suggestions about how you can incorporate oils into your beauty schedules and the various forms in which they come.

From head to toe here we go, starting with:

  1. The Hair

I have big hair and I really do care. It’s like a naughty child who cannot be trusted to be left alone. You wouldn’t believe the amount of time I spend trying to tame it.

This product is my hero when it comes to taming my ‘80’s bouffant’ (as my husband likes to call it). It serves as wonderful heat protection. It’s pretty pricey at £30.00 (just think: no pain, no gain) and I’ve been using this religiously for around two years now and it works wonders - it’s my coloured, dry, thick and frizzy haircare hero.

It’s a really light leave-in treatment oil infused with immortelle and grape seed extract which work to counteract the damaging oxidisation process that occurs from heat styling (which I use a lot of).

I apply it to freshly washed, damp hair and it makes such a difference and enables me to style it in half the time - sometimes I even add a little bit to dry, styled hair to give it a silky shine (I know, show off).

2. The Face

Did you know oils are amazing skin cleansers?

Nope, neither did I until recently and oils are now one of my favourite ways to cleanse. I’m not much of a morning person so I tend to do my cleansing routine in the evenings and oils are so gentle you can use them over the eye area to remove stubborn eye makeup.

One of my favourite things about cleansing oils is that you can either apply them to a dry face and work them in that way and remove with a dry cotton pad or you can apply to damp skin and work in until the oil turns milky and once again you rinse it off.

Oils have this way of almost melting away dirt, impurities and traces of makeup are melted away leaving the skin feeling moisturised and looking plump and hydrated - all that with minimal effort on your part. Truly amazing stuff.

3. On-The-Go

I know how distressing it feels to find yourself in a state of heightened anxiety without being able to find something to focus on to bring you back from it. I’ve been there one too many times.

Anxiety causes the skin on my face, neck and chest to flare up in hot, itchy redness and since discovering the balanceme Rose Otto Face Oil I cannot be without it.

It’s just so handy and as simple as massaging the oil onto your face using the rollerball instantly calming and soothing the skin.

Fun fact: I recently did my first ever 12+ hour long-haul flight and as a sufferer of severe travel anxiety, this isn’t something that came without some struggle. However I did it and I got through it and this little rollerball was such a feeling of comfort when I needed it most, I really would recommend it.

I’m hoping regular use of this will help build up some resilience on my skin over time and reduce the intensity of future flare-ups too.

4. For Body + Bath

Where else can you treat your body to a double dose of moisture and hydration?

The bath, of course! If you’re not a bath person then look away now, but if you are a bath person then you’ll understand where I’m coming from when I say bathing oils really are pure luxury.

I love my bath time and have one most days and it’s my dedicated time to relax and unwind. This Rose Geranium and grapefruit natural bath oil is packed with ingredients designed to nourish and soothe the skin…..aaaaand relax.

If I’m honest, one of the things I love most about adding a cheeky little dose of oil to my bath is you save yourself time as you don’t need to moisturise when you’re done - bam!

5. For anything and everything…

I mean, really anything and everything. Yep, this oil is quite literally ideal and is designed for multi-purpose uses for the face, body and even the hair.

It smells absolutely amazing and for me the scent of Nuxe oils are easily recognisable. I see so many of you raving about this oil and I’m completely with you there.

The texture is not like the other oils in this post a) because it’s dry and not too ‘oily’ and b) it has a handy spray mechanism, so I definitely don’t find it as thick as others.

I’ve found one of the best uses for this is for dry flip-flop-feet in the Summer, a little spritz and my feet look amazing (as much as feet can). Such a gorgeous feet-treat!
